For Good

¿Para bien? No. ¡Para siempre! La frase for good no significa "para bien", como lo indicaría su forma, sino "para siempre", "de manera permanente", "definitivamente". ¡No se dejen engañar por este false friend!

Veamos ejemplos:

1) A: Jane and I broke up.
    A: Cortamos con Juana.
B: You guys break up every week.
B: Ustedes dos cortan todas las semanas.
A: No. This time it's for good.
A: No. Esta vez es para siempre/definitivo.

2) I'm leaving this company. For good. You will get my resignation letter on Monday.
Me voy de esta empresa. Para siempre. Recibirán mi renuncia el lunes.

3) A: The AC man came today.
A: Hoy vino el tipo del aire acondicionado.
B: Has he fixed the AC?
    B: ¿Arregló el aire?
    A: Yep.
    A: Sip.
B: For good? I mean, how many times has he come already?
B: ¿Lo arregló posta/de manera definitiva? Digo, ¿cuántas veces vino ya?
A: Yeah, I know. But this time he has fixed it for good.
A: Sí, ya sé. Pero esta vez lo arregló bien/posta/definitivamente.

4) A: I'm going to Paris next month.
A: El mes que viene me voy a París.
    B: For good??
    B: ¿A vivir?/¿Para siempre?
    A: Haha, no, just sightseeing.
A: Jaja, no, a pasear nomás.

¿Y cómo es entonces "para bien"? ¿Y "para mal"? Lo vemos mañana.
