Throw off







Este phrasal verb tiene varios significados. Yo les voy a hablar solamente del que aprendí yo chateando con una compañera de trabajo norteamericana, que es confundir, desconcertar.

1) A: Are we going out tonight?
         ¿Salimos esta noche?
     B: Didn't we say dinner tomorrow night?
          ¿No dijimos de cenar mañana a la noche?
     A: Yes, I was just asking because you're in a suit and wearing perfume.
           Sí, te preguntaba porque estás en traje y perfumado.
     B: Oh, I get it. Your question threw me off. No. I'm just coming back from a job interview.
          Ah, ya entendí. Me confundió tu pregunta. No. Es que vengo de una entrevista laboral.

2) A: So the test includes Units 1, 2, and 3, right?
          Entonces, la prueba incluye las unidades 1, 2 y 3, ¿no?
    B: No. Just 1 and 2.
         No. Solo la 1 y la 2.
    A: Oh. You were just talking about Unit 3, and that kind of threw me off.
         Ah. Como estabas hablando de la unidad 3 recién medio que me confundí.

¿Se dan cuenta de cómo se usa throw off? Como les decía, tiene otros significados, pero este me pareció el más útil/interesante, y el que seguramente se encontrarán algún día.
