Supongo que ya todos sabemos que here significa "aquí" o "acá", y there significa "allí" o "allá".

En inglés, here y there se usan también en expresiones en las que "aquí" y "allí" no se usan. ¿Saben de qué estoy hablando?

Here:

1) A: Can you pass the salt, please?
    A: ¿Me pasás la sal, por favor?
    B: Here.
    B: Tomá.
    A: Thank you.
    A: Gracias.

2) Father: Why don't you take your sister out for ice cream so that your uncle and I can talk?
    Padre: ¿Por qué no llevás a tu hermana a tomar helado así tu tío y yo podemos hablar?
    Son: I don't have any money!
    Hijo: ¡No tengo plata!
    Father: Here. Bring the change back!
    Padre: Tomá. ¡Traé el vuelto!

También se suele decir here you go (acá tenés/aquí tiene) en situaciones como las anteriores.

¿Y con there?

3) A: I can't believe he broke up with me! Boohoo...
    A: ¡No puedo creer que me cortó! Buaaa...
     B: There, there, you'll find someone better. Don't cry.
     B: Tranquila, tranquila / Bueno, bueno / Ya va a pasar. Vas a encontrar a alguien mejor. No llores.

There, there se usa para consolar a alguien que está triste, mal de ánimo, como en el video que les dejo de The Big Bang Theory. En este video, verán que el chico que está sentado en el sofá está triste y el otro intenta consolarlo, aunque no se siente muy cómodo haciéndolo.

              Qué bueno... "Tranquilo, tranquilo" era lo único que tenía para decirte.
